Family-Friendly Events at Tetherow and Beyond.

Slip n’ Slides, Campouts and More … by Carrie Ramoz Now that the tank tops are coming out and the days are much longer, it is time to start planning and dreaming up your summer in Central Oregon! With so many events both at Tetherow and in the general community, there are enough activities to keep your summer fun-filled one day at a time. In the height of summer during special events, a 100 foot slip n’ slide on the range helps cool off kids and adults alike. During our annual Caddyshack Par-3 event (Fri, July 26), we welcome a 6-foot tall groundhog to the festivities and some of the most dead-on costumes you’ve ever seen. On Tues, June 11, Bend’s annual ‘Blitz 2 the… Read More

Employee Spotlight: Executive Chef Zac Hoffman

The Man Behind the Charming Smile by Kelsi Shelton Meet The Grill’s Executive Chef Zac Hoffman! When former Chef Rian Mulligan and Food and Beverage Manager Kevin Gilman started working at The Grill at Tetherow Golf Club, word spread to Zac how great of a place it was to work. The two foodies invited him to join the force about three years ago, and he has since worked his way up from cook to Executive Chef. Prior to coming on board at Tetherow, Zac worked odd kitchen and construction jobs looking for a place where he would really want to invest himself. He knew his heart has belonged in the food industry ever since he was a child. “One year… Read More

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Sole: Golfing Their Heart Out at Tetherow!

Meet some of Tetherow’s newest Members by Kelsi Shelton Alice and Mark Sole joined Tetherow this past summer, and the decision was in part thanks to fellow Tetherow member Dennis Garbutt. The Soles explain that Mr. Garbutt was a “great salesman”, and in addition to Garbutt touting the many benefits of a Tetherow Membership, the couple has also been following Tetherow since 2007. They found that they “loved everything about Tetherow”, but knew that they needed to wait until they actually moved to Bend to seal the deal. Mr. and Mrs. Sole built a home in Northwest Crossing which was completed in July of 2011, and they were able to move to Bend full time the following April. From San… Read More

2013 Course Opening: A New, Revamped Tetherow Season

by Kelsi Shelton It seems like just yesterday that Superintendent Chris Condon was covering the bunkers and topdressing the greens in preparation for Tetherow’s winter hibernation. But the not-so-quiet off-season has allowed for some exciting new changes at Tetherow, and the time has come for the 2013 season to make its debut. The big opening day is Friday, March 29 for Members, and Saturday, March 30 for guest play. A new season at Tetherow always brings growth and new Members, yet this season will be unique in several ways. For one, the Tetherow Golf Academy is in full swing (pun intended), and instructors Mike Lewis and Adam Huycke will be on site and available to help Members with their game and fitness… Read More

This is not only true of our overall membership, but also for our many homeowners. With a variety of professionals and retirees alike, our growing neighborhoods are vibrant with activity and life. New Tetherow Homeowners: Meet the Alexander-Anderson Family!

by Kelsi Shelton Recent Tetherow homeowners Wendy and Judy are all about investing in their community, the outdoors and continuing to learn all they can in this life. Judy, passionate about helping dogs, has just recently started building a second career as a dog trainer. Wendy grew up on skis and her mountain bike (and now is also into road biking and triathlons). It is easy to see how Bend is a great fit for the two, who just moved here a year ago. Wendy, originally from northern California, is happy to be on the West Coast again after spending the past eight years on the opposite side of the country. After living in five other states since graduating from high school,… Read More

Employee Spotlight: Lisa Fah in the Tetherow Grill

Having Fun in the Midst of Working Hard by Kelsi Shelton Tetherow Bar and Grill’s server Lisa Fah has been living and playing in Central Oregon for seven years now. Growing up in Lake Oswego and then living in Eugene, Fah says she needed a change and ended up “moving to Bend on a whim.” She loves the laid-back feel and size, and after living in the valley, the drier climate in Bend is much appreciated. After working with Tetherow Bar and Grill’s F&B Manager Kevin Gilman at a martini bar in Bend, Lisa came to dinner at Tetherow one night and Gilman informed her that Tetherow would be hiring for the summer. So, “that was that”, and Lisa joined… Read More

Welcoming Our Early-Spring Bird Friends Back to Tetherow

By Carrie Ramoz Spring has sprung! Golfers are not the only group returning to Tetherow – our many seasonal bird friends are also showing up, much to the excitement of Tetherow’s many enthusiastic bird watchers. Cal Elshoff, Tetherow’s bird expert and member of the East Cascade Bird Conservatory, has begun the rounds to assess any winter damage to the many bird and bat boxes around the property. In the early spring, much of Cal’s time is dedicated to cleaning bird boxes to provide a nice, fresh home for our birds this season. Over the winter, some trees fell and he is fixing those bird boxes and finding them new locations. Over the winter, Cal crafted additional Bluebird nesting boxes, bringing… Read More

Some of Tetherow’s Newest Members – Welcome Stevens Family!

by Kelsi Shelton Mr. and Mrs. Don and Susie Stevens had a pretty odd welcoming 23 years ago when they moved to Bend from Cincinnati, Ohio with their then one-year-old son Donny. Just two weeks after moving into their Sunrise Village home, the Awbrey-Hall fire (which was the same fire that removed trees from the Tetherow development) almost destroyed their new place. As they recall, it was “quite an introduction to life in the forest.” But aside from this little hiccup, the two knew Bend was for them and have felt welcomed ever since. Originally, Mrs. Stevens was “a valley girl from So-Cal”, and Mr. Stevens was “a lad from Indiana.” Once living in Cincinnati, the two were sold on… Read More
