The Time is Now to Book Your Holiday Gatherings at Tetherow

“Even though Christmas seems like it’s really far away – I mean, we haven’t even gotten to Halloween yet – it’s time to book now.” By McKenna Brown   If there’s one thing Director of Sales Kristi DiTullio wants you to know about hosting a holiday party at Tetherow, it’s this: “Book now!” “The sooner the better,” she said. “Even though Christmas seems like it’s really far away – I mean, we haven’t even gotten to Halloween yet – it’s time to book now.” Reservations for weekends during the holiday season starting rolling in as early as last year, when many companies and organizations found they had too many people to host their parties in the Clubhouse. The Artwork Hanging in The Row is More Than Meets the Eye

“The artwork is the result of a program called Visions of Hope, a Bend-based nonprofit that works with correctional institutions throughout Oregon.” By Yoko Minoura   One point of pride at Tetherow Resort is the use of local products, from soap in the hotel rooms to food served in both restaurants. Even the artwork on display is the work of Oregon artists. But the pieces currently showcased in The Row may end up having an impact on people living half a world away. The artwork is the result of a program called Visions of Hope, a Bend-based nonprofit that works with correctional institutions throughout Oregon. The program helps provide art supplies and classes to inmates; when pieces are shown and… Read More

“It has been another amazing summer in regards to real estate and we have more opportunities than ever to make Tetherow your home.” By Brian Ladd   The crisp fall air has arrived in Bend. This is my favorite time of year at Tetherow; when the leaves start to rattle, and the biking, golf, hiking and recreation are in top form. Life is great at Tetherow and it seems like more people are discovering that every day. Take Advantage of Tetherow’s Pool This Weekend

The pool will close until the spring after this weekend By McKenna Brown   The highly anticipated pool and hot tub at Tetherow are open, and members and lodge guests seemingly can’t get enough. “The pool has seen a great amount of usage,” Hotel General Manager David Lenke said last month. “Over 800 members and their guests have used the pool since opening, and we have seen over 400 hotel guests use the pool.” But this weekend is the last one you can swim in the pool — at least for a little while. The pool will be open through Monday, September 5th (Labor Day) and then will temporarily close to allow for the construction of the Fitness Facility. Both amenities… Read More

Vacation Rental Homes Round Out Tetherow’s Hospitality Options

“There’s just been a need for them, and they’re such a wonderful addition to our lodging offerings.” By Yoko Minoura   An extended vacation doesn’t have to end with a pile of dirty laundry and a list of restaurant charges as long as your arm. At least, not at Tetherow. In Tetherow’s newest neighborhood – The Cairn – seven vacation rental homes are at or near completion. The homes come fully furnished, with a washer, dryer and completely outfitted kitchen. All seven of the homes in Phase 1 have already been sold. While the homes will be owned by individuals, Tetherow Management will manage the properties, handling rental, marketing, housecleaning between guests and maintenance, Vacation Homes Manager Jade Schneringer said…. ‘Renaturalizing’ Tetherow: How the Golf Course Got Its Look

A lot of work went into making the grounds look so believable By McKenna Brown   You’d be forgiven if you looked out at Tetherow’s golf course and assumed the many fairways and greens had simply been carved out of the natural landscape. In reality, nearly every plant, tree and rock you see has been carefully “re-naturalized” by Tetherow’s course maintenance crew. “It’s a little more difficult than it looks,” Golf Course Superintendent Chris Condon said. “Mother Nature has its way of doing things. We wanted to make sure it was believable, we wanted to make sure that it fit in the whole design of the golf course, and we wanted to utilize as much native plant material as possible… Read More

Tetherow’s New Event Pavilion Will Host Weddings, Parties and More

The new space will create opportunities for lots of fun By Yoko Minoura   Last year, a Tetherow member’s Christmas celebration took place in the golf shop; a few months later, a beer pong tournament for members was shoehorned into the golf cart storage barn. The July opening of the new Event Pavilion, a 3,600-square-foot event space, will hopefully alleviate the space pinch. While the new pavilion is already in use as a wedding venue, the building will also host corporate events, fundraisers and gatherings of all types. “We tried to create opportunities,” Project Manager Erin van der Velde said. “We don’t even know yet what the possibilities are, and that’s what’s going to be fun.” The pavilion, which is attached to Tetherow’s… Read More

From Beef to Beer, Tetherow Chefs Think Locally

Using Local Products is Important to the Chefs at Tetherow By Sarah Gorton Using local companies to supply food and beverages has become increasingly important to consumers in recent years. Tetherow tries to buy local as much as possible while still maintaining the high level of quality that Members expect. I caught up with Sean Mercer, general manager of The Row, and Sous Chef Justin Birtola to get a little insight on what goes into making those decisions. While many companies choose to use a general supplier for all of their meat and produce needs, the cooks at Tetherow go the extra mile to make sure that they are using the best local products they can. They visit local farms… Read More

“We are gearing up for the Ceilidh – the ladies member/guest tournament – which starts today and ends Sunday.” By Jake Edwards, PGA It has been an exciting start to the season here at Tetherow, and we are all looking forward to one of our best seasons yet. The golf course is in beautiful shape and everybody is so excited that the pool is open. The membership enjoyed some fun events in June with the ladies playing their first major Member/ Member tournament. It was a thrilling finish as we had our first aggregate putt-off, in honor of the US Open, to decide the 2016 net champion. Roxie Mills and Heidi Kjos hit two fabulous putts to narrowly defeat Paula Sansburn… Read More

A Dog’s Perspective: The Tetherow Experience

“I bet all my buddies at the dog park will be jealous when I tell them about the great trip I had!” By Yoko Minoura I graduated puppy obedience where I learned to walk on a leash, I’ve gotten comfortable with my crate and have received all my shots, so Mom and Dad said I’m ready to travel with them. WOOF! They said we’re going to a place called Bend, Oregon – awarded “Dog Town, USA” by Dog Fancy magazine in 2012. Sounds like my kind of place. First, we stopped at Tetherow, where we’ll be spending a few nights. Mom put my leash on and let me join her in the lobby to check in, where I was able… Read More

Tetherow is Expanding Its Bike Trail System

“Just walk out your driveway and hop on the trail…” By Yoko Minoura Bend’s annual Blitz bike race is likely the only time mountain bikes are ever allowed on a golf course. But Tetherow – host to the “Big Air” stage of the race – has created several new trails around the property to allow bikers and hikers to enjoy the southwest Bend area and the Deschutes National Forest beyond. “One of the coolest things about Tetherow is we want people to enjoy the natural beauty,” Tetherow General Manager Chris van der Velde said. Tetherow is bordered on the east by Alpine Park – an undeveloped area owned by the Bend Park and Recreation District – and on the west… Read More

Tetherow’s new onsite pool and hot tub – open to members and lodge guests – are set to open July 1. And anticipation is high, Project Manager Erin van der Velde noted. “It might not be big enough for all the people that want to use it,” she said. Upon completion, the heated, outdoor pool will measure 79’ by 29’ with a variable depth from 3’6” to 5’5”, according to Assistant Project Manager Chris Shisler. The surrounding deck will boast five cabanas, available for rent; a food cart… Read More

Real Estate Sales Continue Strong Through Spring

WATCH IT: Timelapse video compresses 9 months of building into 60 seconds.   Driving around the various neighborhoods, the design diversity at Tetherow is nearly as striking as the mountain views. While all homes conform to the community’s Architectural Design standards, they embrace a range of modern designs with simple, clean lines to homes that reflect the area’s rich timber resources with thick beams and a solid, organic feel. Homes on the eastern edge of Tetherow, which borders the Broken Top community, are nestled amongst the large pines that miraculously survived the Awbrey Hall fire in the early 1990s. Move just a few streets to the north and west and these homes and homesites offer Cascade and golf course views… Read More

Brewery Smackdown at Tetherow

Two local breweries paired their best and the winner was… by Sarah Gorton Photos courtesy of Steven Heinrichs. On April 7, the Grill played host to Tetherow’s second Brewers Battle. In one corner was Deschutes Brewery, and in the opposing corner was Sunriver Brewing. Before the battle, Tetherow’s chefs, Zac, Miguel and Justin met with the brewers to let them sample the menu and choose which beer they thought paired best with each dish. The night of the event, members, brewers and distributors descended upon The Grill to help crown a winner. Each round, every participant received a plate of food and two blind beer tasters that were color coded either green or red. After finishing each course, they chose which beer… Read More

Behind the Scenes: Creating Tetherow Cocktails

The creative names are just one aspect of these delicious inspirations by Sarah Gorton   Ever wondered how the bartenders at Tetherow create all of the unique drinks served at the Member’s Lounge? I picked Food & Beverage Manager Kevin Gilman’s mind for a behind the scenes look into what goes on behind the bar at Tetherow. According to Kevin, when it comes to cocktail creation, bartenders tend to lean toward one of two styles. Some bartenders, like Kevin, like to play with the classics, reinventing them with modern ingredients or new techniques, while other bartenders like to experiment with new flavors and technologies to create something completely new. One of the drinks that Kevin has recently been toying with is… Read More

Destination Weddings in Central Oregon

Current Wedding Style Trends Include Succulents and Rustic Decor by Yoko Minoura The scenic beauty and recreational opportunities that make Central Oregon a tourist mecca have also turned it into a popular setting for something else: destination weddings. In the 2015 The Source Weekly “Best of Central Oregon” awards, Tetherow took second place in “Best Place for a Wedding Reception.” First place went to Aspen Hall, owned by Bend Park & Recreation. Both venues fit with the outdoorsy, rustic-chic trend currently dominating weddings, according to Tetherow Wedding and Event Sales Manager Shelly Mirabile. And more couples booking destination weddings are looking to mountains instead of beaches as the backdrop for their big day. “A lot of couples have vacationed here,” Shelly said,… Read More
