Snow Hasn’t Slowed Down Progress on Fitness Facility

It’s slated to open Memorial Day Weekend

Tetherow’s new fitness center won’t be complete for another three months, but that hasn’t stopped Project Manager Erin van der Velde from joking that she wants the upstairs corner office in the building.

The facility – set to open Memorial weekend – has three exercise rooms and several offices that overlook the Deschutes National Forest to the south and have an unobstructed view of Mount Bachelor to the west.

“The views from the second floor (are) drop-dead,” van der Velde said.

The building is meant to work in concert with Tetherow’s onsite pool and hot tub. Men’s and women’s locker rooms, each with their own sauna and steam room, are located on the first floor, with direct access to the pool deck. Also on the first floor is a café with a poolside service window as well as indoor seating for pre- or post-workout noshing.

The second story includes a large, central room that will hold cardio equipment, such as treadmills and elliptical trainers, and weight machines. A smaller room next door will hold group fitness classes, such as Tetherow’s TRX suspension trainer workouts. A third room, with antimicrobial flooring and a barre, is meant for yoga, Pilates and barre classes.

Van der Velde said Tetherow is in the process of surveying members to figure out what kinds of classes or programming they would like to see at the new fitness facility.

The fitness rooms are designed to be adaptable; van der Velde said the group exercise rooms are equipped to handle heavy power and data loads, in case one or more classes require either.

There are also plans for limited child care during class times, depending on member demand. Tetherow is also hoping to continue its partnership with the Athletic Club of Bend, she added, but details have yet to be determined.

“The fitness industry changes. It’s really trendy,” van der Velde said. “We’re giving ourselves room to grow as far as meeting fitness needs.”

Tetherow will hold a kickoff party for members to mark the opening of the fitness center and reopening of the pool; thereafter, Tetherow plans to have both open year-round for members and hotel guests.

“I think it really completes our amenities package for hospitality guests,” van der Velde said. She added that she thinks guests, especially, will be wowed by a workout room with stunning views and abundant natural light.

“I can’t wait to come exercise at this facility,” she said. “It’ll fit Tetherow and it’ll feel good, it’ll feel like you want to go and get fit up here.”
