Chris van der Velde
GM/Managing Partner & Espresso Connoisseur
Managing Partner Chris van der Velde keeps things colorful and alive at Tetherow, often by playing the M&M "last color standing" game and by cracking a joke when things get heated. Born in Norwich, Connecticut to a Dutch father and an Oregonian mother, van der Velde visited Holland for several months at a time before he was 18. By the time he was 23, Chris was competing in the European mini-tours, and he turned pro in 1987. Van der Velde received his European tour card in 1988 and went on to play professional golf in Europe from 1989-1999 (aside from a short 18-month stint in Atlanta). During these years in Holland, Chris and his wife Erin raised three children. Chris decided to channel his passion for golf and became business partners with Netherlands-based Willem Willemstein in 2005. Friends since 2001, van der Velde and Willemstein did other smaller business deals together before purchasing Tetherow Golf Course in March of 2009.
*FUN FACT: Chris was coach of the Dutch national team in October of 2006 when they won the Amateur World Cup.
Erin van der Velde
One of Erin’s many talents is taking big ideas and turning them into reality. Almost every building you see at Tetherow today was created because of her dedication and creativity. A native Oregonian, Erin was born and raised in Eugene, OR. She went onto college in California, received her Master’s in Education in New York City and then spent a few years teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten at the American School of The Hague in Holland. The Netherlands became her “other home” while her husband, Chris, was involved with golf and she began raising their family. Fast forward a few years later and Erin returned to Oregon with her family and dove into the construction side of Tetherow and building it into a community and resort. Managing construction projects has allowed Erin to work with a fantastic array of construction professions and is always in awe just how many ‘hands’ touch a building, taking it from a concept to a reality.
*FUN FACT: Erin used to be a water ski instructor!
Director of Agronomy
Justin joined the team at Tetherow in June 2017 after working at Old MacDonald Course since 2013. He was born and raised on his family’s cranberry farm in Bandon, Oregon and acquired his associates degree in Turf Management from the local community college. While in school, he worked at the Trails Course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and at Old MacDonald Course. He later received his BS in Turf Management from Oregon State University and then became the Assistant Superintendent at Old MacDonald Course when he was only 23.
*FUN FACT: Justin has his Crossfit Level 1 Trainer Certificate. He has been participating in Crossfit for seven years and an instructor for five.
