Year In Review 2018

This was Tetherow’s 10 year anniversary year and with resort-wide exponential growth and an abundance of tournaments and events—Tetherow has never been so fun. Join us in toasting the best of 2018!

Golf

Tetherow showed some serious game. Wins in the Deschutes Cup, Kidd Cup, and OB Cup have set the bar high for the upcoming season. Burning Bush, Patriot Day, First Story, and The Scotch were once again successful events with fantastic food and great camaraderie.

The golf course saw eight strategic improvements—including altered bunkers and the creation of a gentle backstop at Hole #16 that allows for a more aggressive approach shot. As Superintendent Justin Smith says, the goal for improvements is to ensure we aren’t penalizing a golfer for a good shot.

You can maintain your game in winter by renting the simulator with TrackMan 4 technology and experiencing 27 different courses. Contact the Golf Shop for more information.

Lodging

One of the most exciting news this year came in autumn when Tetherow was recognized as the #1 Resort in Oregon by Condé Nast Traveler 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards!

“The quality of our guest rooms, their spaciousness and amenities, plus the level of service we provide seems to be really appreciated,” says Loy Helmly, Lodging General Manager.

Tetherow has 50 deluxe hotel rooms and two neighborhoods of vacation homes. This year saw a positive uptick in occupancy and many five-star reviews on social media. We also welcomed a hearty number of first-time guests from all parts of the world.

But perhaps the most noticeable growth was in our vacation homes. Five and four-bedroom options span between two neighborhoods, Cairn and Trailhead. The newest floor plan is Skyliner, which has a beautiful wrapping porch along the upstairs bedrooms. The total number of homes has increased from 15 to 22 just this year—each with its own private hot tub, fire pit, and barbeque—and more are in the works!

“We know the commitment by ownership [is] to continue growth of high-quality facilities served by attentive and dedicated staff,” says Helmly. “[We] will maintain Tetherow’s reputation as ‘the place to stay’ in Bend for years to come!”

Tetherow Sport & Cafe

Fueled by Member enthusiasm, inspired fitness classes, and ginger shots, Tetherow Sport crossed the finish line on its first full calendar year.

Operations were steady across the board. We gained many new employees and welcomed Jordan Ropp as the new Tetherow Sport Manager.

The gym was busy with regulars and newcomers alike. We have almost hit the 50,000 mark for total miles expended on the ellipticals, bikes, and treadmills. That’s nearly two times around the equator!

The pool will remain open for winter with scheduled lap and open swim hours. We heard your request, too: a new family hot tub was built on the east lawn. Please contact the Front Desk for hours and availability.

Fitness classes prove to be increasingly popular—especially Strength & Conditioning and Metcon—so we added some new ones. Find the complete class schedule here.

Dining

This year saw the introduction of a new Food & Beverage Director, Meranda Baker. Having worked at Tetherow for 2 years in the events department and with a background in food and beverage, Meranda was the natural choice to lead the teams at The Row, Solomon’s, Tetherow Cafe and in our catering department.

The Row continues to be a favorite and with new head chef Eric McElroy, food continues to be delicious and a popular hot spot for locals, those coming off the mountain and of course, our members and resort guests. Under Eric we’ve had a few menu changes that have expanded on an already flavorful menu – salmon risotto, mac and cheese, spinach artichoke dip – and don’t worry, the burger has remained the best burger in Bend.

We also saw a change this past year in Solomon’s with the addition of Chef de Cuisine Nick Thompson and sous chef Matt Matheny. Featuring a seasonally driven menu inspired by the Pacific Northwest and updated every week to take advantage of the freshest regional ingredients, Solomon’s continues to evolve and showcase distinct, creative and unique fare.

Events

If you’ve never been inside the Pavilion, we welcome you to take a tour and soak in the panoramic views, retractable walls, roaring fireplace, and more.

This year, Tetherow was proud to host 29 weddings in addition to fundraisers, Bar Mitzvahs, awards shows, fashion shows, and corporate groups of all sizes. Tetherow also offers unique team-building events, including mixology classes, chili cook-offs, and outdoor archery tag.

Although they were all beautiful, a Sales Team favorite was the ceremony for Dee and Weldon. Well into their 80’s, the lucky couple met during the Solar Eclipse!

Building, Development & Operations

In addition to more vacation homes and the family hot tub, we installed a new single-track trail that wraps the Tetherow property. We are currently having a contest to name the trail. Feeling creative? Email your submission to Cori Ervin at cervin@tetherow.com for your chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Solomon’s!

Membership

Tetherow Membership has seen some hearty growth this year; we now have a total of 303 Golf Members and 236 Social Members.

There were some fantastic parties—the ten-year anniversary was a hoot, and the recent Brunch with Santa was one of the best yet.

We also created the Fly Fishing and Ski Clubs. If you are interested in joining, or have an idea for a new club, please reach out to Membership & Events Manager April Harvey at aharvey@tetherow.com. We would love to hear from you!
